This new EeeBox is an upgrade of the venerable EB1501 and looks to have had some major work done under the hood to boost performance.  It seems to be the healthier and more robust cousin of the ASUS EeeBox EB1501U and will probably retail for around the same price point (if the 1501U ever hits the market—it debuted at CeBIT but has yet to hit shelves!

While the device is listed as an upgrade of an older model, making many users leery of actually spending a lot to get a little more, this “upgrade” looks to be fairly substantial.  For starters, we’re looking at a new ATOM D525 Dual-Core processor.  You’ll also get a 250GB hard drive, 2GB of DDR3 RAM, 802.11n Wi-Fi built-in, and Bluetooth.  Heck, ASUS has even overhauled the GPU, dropping in a NVIDIA Ion.

While this box won’t blow your mind, it’s pretty well spec’d for a middle of the road media machine.  And as such, it’s not short on ports.  With six USB sockets and an HDMI out, there’s plenty of room for you to plug and play.  You get all of that in one of the tiniest packages around, just about the size of a paperback novel!
