The new imageFORMULA P-150M is a lightweight scanner that makes a perfect accessory for any business person or photo junkie and because it uses integrated drivers you don’t have the hassle of having to install the darn thing on every computer you stumble across. However, will its price keep it from being practical?
Though this version is for Mac only, the company does make a PC version and they’re pretty much identical in functionality. And functionally the device is pretty slick. It’s powered by the USB cable and can scan up to 15 documents per minute–not bad considering my 2 year old home scanner takes about three times that. It also features a 20 page feeder which handles multiple documents without jamming.
One of the coolest features is the “CaptureOnTouch” utility. Scanned documents are quickly converted and can be automatically uploaded to some of your favorite apps including Evernote.
As I said before, it’s the perfect business tool but at $300 each it may just be business folks buying it. Desktop scanners are incredibly cheap these days and the functionality and resolutions they’re capable of are quite impressive. All-in-one devices are even more prevalent. The imageFORMULA is small, lightweight, and portable but how many users are really looking for those benefits? It’s not like you’re going to be able to carry this thing around in your back pocket.
Bottom line is if you need a way to copy a lot of documents or photos quickly and spend most of your time on the go, this is a great little gadget. If you just need a scanner and could care less if it can fit in your briefcase then get yourself a more robust machine.
