Ctrl+S Controller Offers Ergonomics and Promises of Laughter

Console gaming controllers haven’t evolved all that much since the original Xbox hit the market years ago. They follow a pretty standard design (two triggers, two bumpers, 4-8 face buttons) and most don’t really push any boundaries. Those that do either are huge successes like the Dual Shock controller for the PSII, or flop big time like pretty much every peripheral made for the Wii. UNIQ is toying with a concept it calls the Ctrl+S which could easily fall on either side of that success/failure fence but promises to make a big splash either way.
While it’s just a concept model as of now (the guys at Engadget just got their hands on a mock up), it features a clear forefinger rest which takes most of the weight of the controller freeing you fingers from grasping and allowing more precise joystick movements. While most gamers really don’t care about the ergonomics—finger cramps are the mark of a true gamer—they’ll definitely love the precision. Headshots will be so much easier!
Sadly, the controller is for the PSIII exclusively and features analog triggers-haven’t they learned that digital is the way to go?
It’s scheduled to hit shelves in December for right around $70—in line with most branded controllers. So you don’t have too long to wait in order to see if your friend will call you a genius or laugh at your funny little controller.
