Fujifilm’s Waterproof FinePix XP10 Isn’t the Best but May Be Better than the Rest

FujiFilm’s launched a new 12MP digital camera that’s waterproof.  I know the words waterproof and camera mean crappy picture quality (at least when considering camera in a price range that won’t scare the pants off an average consumer) but this little beast is a performer.  It’s not the best camera out there but it’s probably the best waterproof camera you’re going to get for under (read just barely) $200.

The integral 5X zoom lens is nice touch but you have to wonder how easy it is to zoom and stay focused on your subject while underwater in any but the calmest of seas.  Maybe that’s why FujiFilm also equipped the camera to shoot video in 720p—so you didn’t really have to worry about staying still.

It’s a bit boxy but the stylish design (and flashy color choices) makes up for the odd shape.  The colors also make it easy to see if you drop it in the drink!

While it won’t win any awards, it will keep your average beach comber very happy.  A word of warning though, this shouldn’t be your primary camera.  You can get much better all purpose machines for around the same price point.  However, if you want a decent machine that works well in hostile environments, the FujiFilm XP10 isn’t bad.
