Gadgets for home and work: 10 technologies for 2010

1. Digital Terrestrial Televisión (DTTV or DTT)
In some countries, this is a very confused topic, especially due to ineffective educational strategies to inform people about this new technology and long discussions about compatibility challenges. However, in 2010 there will be more countries where analogical TVs will become obsolete and need an additional decoder.
2. Android
2009 was a good year for Android. At least, a good year to visualize the penetration that this mobile OS could reach. Without a doubt, the new year will bring us a lot of Android phones that will be more powerful and have more functions.
3. e-Books readers
The e-books readers are already available in some stores, although they are not massively adopted yet. Some very interesting models will be launched soon. So, in 2010, we can expect a continuous rise of the adoption of this technology around the world.
4. Multimedia – Set Top Boxes
They are a real successful phenomenon in USA. Its multiple features allow users to watch, record, and download movies and TV shows. Besides, those movies or shows can be watched at any time of the day or night. This year, we expect an increasing number of users of this technology around the world.
5. Motion Controller for video games
The Wii set this trend. However, this year, some projects like the Microsoft Project Natal and the Sony Motion Controller promise to take this technology to the next level.

6. Augmented reality (AR)
A gadget with a digital camera and a view of the real world is able to provide us a lot of useful data. For example, if the view contains a person, the device would display the name, phone, e-mail, etc. If the view contains a building, some historical data could be displayed. Or if the view contains a physical store, then we could know the operating hours and information about the products offered.

7. Tablets
During the last months of 2009, Tablet computers without a physical keyboard have been a trendy and prominent topic in the technological world, especially because there are some rumors about the launch of an Apple device of this type.
8. 3D
The Blu-ray 3D standard has already been approved and, shortly, we will see a progressive increase of available 3D screens and media players at the stores. Besides, the video games are also evolving toward a complete 3D experience. In particular, some new 3D features of the PS3 have been announced by Sony.

9. Eco-friendly cars
An electric motor combined with a built-in computer that is connected to Internet is not only more efficient than traditional cars in terms of time and energy, but also results in a safer car.

10. Smartbooks
Smartbooks are a sort of compact devices that are defined as a middle point between netbooks and smartphones. This way, those devices would offer more capabilities than any smartphone but they will be smaller than the current netbooks, so you can carry them with you anywhere you go.
