So looks aren’t really what you should be looking for when you’re buying a camcorder but some recent models have been so darned ugly that they should have to put a bag over themselves before appearing in public. The new HP V5020U doesn’t have to worry about that. It sure is a snazzy dresser—but does it do what it should: record excellent video?
Well, in short, yes it does. You get full 1080p recording with a 10X digital zoom. Not bad for a measly 5 megapixel sensor—who said megapixels were everything? There’s also a neat little gyroscope built in so your camcorder always knows which way is up. While the 2 inch LCD is pretty standard, the motion sensor isn’t and I have to admit it’s a first for me on a camera in this price range.
Don’t worry about overloading the memory banks either—it’s got a built in SDHC slot!
You get all of this for just $159! That’s ridiculous considering what the Flip debuted at a few years ago. So if you’re in the market for a really good pocket camcorder for cheap, consider HP. It comes in purple.
