No, the age of Jabra manufacturing ugly Bluetooth headsets is not yet over. However, for those of us who want a safer way to use our cell phones in the car without relying on something that straps to our ear like some alien brain-sucking insect can rejoice, Jabra has come out with a new hands-free device that turns your car into a conference room quickly and easily.
The new Jabra Freeway in-car speakerphone isn’t really anything revolutionary. Essentially it’s a speaker and microphone that syncs wirelessly with your smart or semi-smart phone. It can allows you to speak and drive effortlessly without trying to balance a phone in your hand or crooked between your ear and shoulder.

While the safety of these devices may all be relative, the functionality isn’t. Most of these hands-free devices function marginally at best. Users still have to yell at the device to be heard and the sound quality of the garbled nonsense that comes out of the speakers is poor at best.
However, the new Freeway model is head and shoulders above the rest. It’s built with three speakers instead of one or two and supports excellent stereo-quality sound. The microphone also has some advanced noise-cancelling technology built-in so the sound coming through the other end of the line is drastically improved as well.
The device is totally wireless and runs off an internal battery that’s supposed to last up to 14 hours. In addition, the sleek design features only a few actual buttons on the machine. Many of the Freeway’s features are controlled by voice commands—which kind of makes sense for a hands-free device.
So how much will you have to spend to get your hands on one of these when they hit the market? Around $130, give or take. It’s not cheap but it’s a much better product than most of the other options available.
