Today, LaCie has just announced that the new Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series of external storage drives is already available at some stores. The latest generation of Little Big Disk is the first product of the series of high-end Thunderbolt solutions by LaCie.

The storage drives of the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series have been designed for the more demanding uses and will add a new performance level to creative workflows; it is also targeted to those professional users who need advanced storage options. It features really fast data transfers, complete system backups in just a few minutes, and a very quick way to edit or update the files.

It is a very superior solution compared to other products in the market.

“Performance can come in small packages,” said Jason Ziller, Intel’s director of Thunderbolt Marketing. “LaCie’s Little Big Disk with Intel’s Thunderbolt technology delivers blazingly fast transfer speeds in a truly portable form factor; we think media creators and entertainment enthusiasts alike are going to love it.”

Great capabilities with a lightweight drive

LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series sets a trend in data storage industry. The Little Big Disk unit comes with two 2.5-inch storage drives in a Mac OS RAID configuration to get amazing read speeds higher than 480 MB/s in SSD (solid-state drive) and up to 190 MB/s in HDD (hard disk drive).

And the more Little Big Disk units are connected to work like a single unit, the better your chances of reaching an extremely high performance. Yeah! Users can connect an array of different Little Big Disk units to take the maximum advantage of the capabilities provided in this solution and get transfer rates of up to 800 MB/s; that is to say, you will obtain a transfer speed as if you had an array of powerful storage drives in a rack-mount, but actually you will have an array or portable drives; and each drive weighs 1.4 pounds!

Latest-generation storage

Little Big Disk was thought to be a revolutionary product for content creators -and other professional users- since it has several characteristics to enable quick access to read or modify stored data. In this product, apparently, LaCie become obsessed  with high speed.

In fact, it’s great to have ultra-quick solutions in this field, especially if we need to deal with huge amounts of information and different content types or formats like videos, portable databases, high-resolution images, etc. Sometimes it’s very frustrating when we waste precious seconds reaching an external hard drive, especially if we often need to access the external disk while we are working.

The Little Big Disk can work with several RAID levels (0, 1 and JBOD) and, as said before, you can connect several units to increase the storage capacity (like a sort of modules). Even you can connect the units to other peripherals. Besides that, the casing has an efficient heat sink and a silent fan, so there is a very good cooling system in order to avoid malfunctions due to excessive heat.

“The great thing about the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series is its versatility,” said Erwan Girard, professional business unit manager at LaCie. “No matter which Little Big Disk model you choose, it will serve your most demanding applications with ease and portability. It’s the ultimate in storage technology.”

During more than 20 years, Lacie has worked in a market related to Apple products. And the company is always presenting innovative products and introducing avant-garde and useful technologies. In fact, LaCie developed the first storage solution for Apple and introduced the first practical applications of the FireWire technology. Since then, LaCie has collaborated with Intel and Apple to develop a range of professional storage solutions that use the Thunderbolt technology.

The HDD version of the LaCie Little Big Disk Thunderbolt Series is already available for sale at Apple stores around the world.
