Nintendo Game Console: New Black Wii Package

Does the color of a console make any difference at all?  Apparently.  Much like Microsoft’s flagship console the Xbox 360, Nintendo’s Wii will soon be crossing over to the Dark Side.  But when you buy this box, you’re getting more than just a decorative piece for your living room.

Last December the Wii console sold 1.35 million units but there were still folks out there who thought the Wii’s ultra-sleek white color scheme just wasn’t cool enough to warrant them switching from a “real” console to Nintendo’s family friendly machine.  When the black console launched in Japan last year, angry fans in the western world united on the internet and cried out at the injustice.  Game sites like Joystiq and GoNintendo lit up with disappointed blog posts and gamers were left to consider spray paint as their only option.

Nintendo must have gotten the hint because on May 9th Gamers in America will be able to purchase their own.

The new Black Wii comes bundled with Wii remote with Wii Motion Plus upgrade, Wii Sports, and Wii Sports Resort, not bad with a price tag of only $199 US, especially considering that’s what the base systems are selling for now.

You can pre-order yours at some online retailers today.
