They needed time and conviction, but now the Finnish maker Nokia has also its touchscreen cell phone. This autumn, the major provider of cell phones in the world will launch the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic, which is its first touch-screen mobile phone, with up to 16 GB capacity for music or video and an innovative interface that shows emails, SMS messages and networking tools on the same screen.

According to Jo Harlow, Senior Vice President Marketing Nokia Mobile Phones, it’s a way of communication thought for the young public, and even the price reflects it. It will cost $407, before taxes and subsidies: less than its American rival and similar to the HTC G1, which is the first phone to run the Google originated Android open source operating system that also competes with iPhone but is more focused on Internet services.
The new 5800 phone will also have GPS, complete web access (contrary to Apple, it will support Flash, which is the format that Youtube uses in its videos), 3.2 megapixel camera for photos and videos, and a 3.2-inch touch screen. Also, it incorporates three options for writing: on screen QWERTY virtual keyboard, on screen virtual alphanumeric keypad or hand writing recognition. With this last option, Nokia wants to reach markets like Asia where people write with ideographic characters.
In fact, the Asian market constitutes an audience that has been the main engine of the Finnish company during the last two years and it may be the best bet to compete with Apple.

Great Article, I think that we will see much more coming from HTC in the near future. Samsung and Nokia are improving there touch screen technologies however are still feeling out their own identity. All of the research needs to go into the screens and maybe the best touch screen technologies could be blended to create something new not affected by current patents.

We’ve identified my Nokia 5800 XpressMusic cell to be the very best general We’ve owned. Just wish it had a slide out qwerty keyboard! Anyway, it does not so enough is sufficient. A whole lot of people whine about the digital camera, it does suck, but it is not that important to me-I have a great Canon SD950 digital camera if I want pics. I am really please with how customizable it truly is and all of the things I can perform with it. Wants charging nearly every day when utilized a fair bit. Considering about debranding it. Rogers (Canada) keeps factors pretty locked down plus the highest fw I are already ready to upgrade to is v30 (one thing like that can’t don’t forget the exact quantity in the moment). Sounds like v40 has some excellent attributes I am missing out on.Well, glad I identified this forum, I hope to understand a whole lot far more about what I can do with my mobile phone.
