Panasonic’s new HDC-TM35 HD camcorder is the lightest HD camcorder available today, coming in at just under 190 grams. That’s most-likely less than the smartphone you’re carrying around in your pocket. Why so light? Because Panasonic is targeting the ladies. No, really.
In a press release from the company’s PR department, Panasonic states that’s it’s going after the female market with its light weight (because apparently girls cold hold even mildly heavy objects for short amounts of time) and it’s choice of available colors (white, violet, gold, or gray.)
Sexism aside, how does the device perform? Pretty well, considering. It shoots in up to 1080i and features hybrid image stabilization that supposedly corrects for even heavy amounts of shaking—I guess the proof will be in the pudding there. It also boasts plenty of storage capacity (SDXC—not included) with videos created in AVCHD format.
The camcorder is launching in Japan first before making the trek across the ocean and those little Japanese waifs will probably love that their arms don’t get tired. I wonder if the company will change Its marketing tactics when it launches in a country that has undergone a women’s rights movement.
