The Californian memory maker is updating the Inferno line of solid state drives by releasing two new products with storage capacities of 100GB and 200GB. However, regrettably this launch is not the beginning of a reduction in the price of these data storing devices; in fact, to get one of the new SSDs the user will have to pay $369 (for a 100GB SSD) or $679 (for a 200GB SSD). The reason for these numbers are the current memories prices (very expensive). And, if you have had to update or increase the memory of your gadgets recently, then maybe you are very aware of this situation (including Flash and SDRAM memories, too).
The new Patriot Inferno SSDs (solid-state drives) are already available for sale at the stores. These new products from the noted American maker are using the SandForce SF-1222 controller in order to reach an impressive data transfer speed: 285/275 Mbytes per second as maximum read and write speeds (respectively).

The SandForce controller allows to include these Patriot drives in the group of the faster drives that are currently marketed. These SSDs use Multi-level Cell Technology (MLC) and are available in a standard format: 2.5-inch portable drives.
Unfortunately the problem is the usual one. Although it was expected that the incursion of multiple makers would decrease the prices of SSDs, the high price of memories has not allowed it. At this time, there is still a big gap between the $369 (or $679) that somebody has to pay for a 100GB (or 200GB) Patriot Inferno drive and the cost per megabyte of the regular hard drives. Anyway, the SSDs come with improved quality and greater speed; besides, Patriot also offers five-year guarantee for customers buying its new SSDs.
