The iPod touch has been crown the official king of portable media devices and the only thing that would make it better is if it had phone functionality, or a different manufacturer. Apple just isn’t for some people and if you want something different that will do pretty much the same things as an iPod Touch, you’re out of luck. At least until the GoGear hits the shelves near you.
Phillips has been a leader in music and media for years and it makes sense that they would try to regain some of the market share that Apple has stolen over the years. This GoGear device may just do that.
It’s rocks a 3.2 inch LCD screen and has built-in WiFi. To prove it’s a true music machine, the GoGear comes standard with sound isolating earphones and to prove it can run with the ig dogs when it comes to digital devices, it packs a retinue of official Google Apps and access to the Android Market!
It has a built-in camera as well (something the first and second generation Touches did not) and a microSD slot—which will definitely come in handy.
You can even sync your media player wirelessly via Bluetooth (though you can still do it old skool with a USB cable if you want to be contrary.) And if you snag one of these bad boys, you’ll even get location services via Skyhook.
When the device crosses the pond this November, it’s going to cost you $300 or better to get your hand on one, but it will most likely be worth every penny.
