Pocketbook Launches New Android-Based eReader (Among Others)

If you’re one of those Android snobs that thinks every portable device should run on some version of the revolutionary software that’s sweeping the cell phone/netbook/tablet market these days (and why shouldn’t it?) then you’ll be happy to note that Pocketbook is launching a new Android enabled eReader.  Soon you’ll be reading books in style with all your cybernetic buddies!

Truth be told, the company is actually launching five new models ranging from the “pro” models to the sports with one of the major differences being screen size (the sports sport 6 inch screens and the others 9.7 inch.)  However, internally they’re all going to be limited by 2GB of memory (Which isn’t bad but isn’t stellar.)

Probably one of the coolest features is that all of the touch screens are going to be color with very crisp resolutions.  They’ll all, of course, feature Wi-Fi and BlueTooth—because if they didn’t in this age they would fail immediately—but the more expensive models will also feature 3G connectivity much like Amazon’s Kindle.

The cream of the crop though is the “Entertainment” model.  This piece of eye candy will let you choose your own case color and give you all the other good stuff packaged in the lower-end models with the addition of a 7 inch TFT color screen and Android 2.0.  It’s hard to say exactly what these models are capable of but it’s clear that pocketbook is hoping that the tablet crowd will latch onto its PocketBook IQ.
