Still Need A kindle? This is the Best One Yet!

If you don’t have a Kindle yet, you can officially consider yourself a Luddite.  If you’ve haven’t heard of Kindle yet, you must have been living on Mars.  If you’ve just been holding out until the features justify the price, well then, Amazon may have just tipped the scales in your favor.  The new Kindle is the best model yet and it’s only $139!

First of all, you’ll notice it slimmer, lighter, and more responsive than any of the other incarnations.  It also now comes in graphite gray because Amazon figured the off-white was a little too 2007.  Also, there aren’t any number keys, you’ll have to sort through the symbols for those.  Also, the rocker key has been minimized, which is great for handling.

Internally, you’re going to get twice as much storage (4GB—which will hold a ludicrous amount of text!)  Also, the battery life has been doubled to up to four weeks on a single charge (with normal use and the wireless features disabled.)

While the Eink display is still only 6 inches (and still in grayscale) this new Kindle has a much higher contrast ratio which means everything is sharper and easier to see/read.  The much touted webkit internet browser is a bit weak and honestly shouldn’t even be a selling point when you’re buying an e-reader.  If you want a decent browser, buy a smart device or even a netbook.  The kindle is for digital books.

There haven’t been that many changes over the Kindle 2 but the price drop (WiFi only models run $139 with the WiFi/3G models topping out at $189) is definitely enough to get even hardcore Luddites thinking about dropping come coin.
