If you’re thinking about buying a new thumb drive and read/write speed is a factor in your consideration you may want to hold onto your cash for a little while. Patriots’ new Supersonic Magnum thumb drive is set to overtake the world shortly with speeds of up to 200 MBs.
That’s nearly 2.5 times faster than the nearest competitor in the portable flash memory game. How does it achieve such speed? The new single eight channel controller sports some proprietary hardware that facilitates data transfer at incredibly fast speeds. In addition to the incredibly fast write speeds, this new Supersonic drive (which is an update of the model that came out at the tail end of last year—man technology upgrades are getting too fast to follow) will also read at up to 111 MBs.

As far as size goes, there will be multiple versions with the data cap topping out at 128 GB. That’s not too shabby for portable data transfer. However, you can bet with speed that fast you’re not going to find these new Patriot thumb drives hanging out in the bargain bin anytime soon. In fact, Patriot hasn’t even release retail pricing yet. (Consider that last year’s 64 GB model still sells for over $200 on Amazon and you’ll get a rough idea of how much you’ll have to spend.)
If you have the need for speed, keep your eye on the official Patriot website for all the latest news and a release date.
