The iRig Microphone Package Lets You Rock (or Rap) Your Way

So, you want a relatively cheap mic accessory that you can just jack into your favorite Apple iDevice and rock out, record, and remix with your best buds in the garage. Welcome the iRig Mic (conveniently packages with VocaLive software).
The mic is a pretty standard microphone that slots right into your 1/8” jack like that’s where it was meant to be. Open up the included VocaLive app and you’re ready to start recording like a pro (not really).

The mic itself is kind of crappy with audio quality that’s not much better than a bargain Xbox 360 headset. It produces sound that’s either muffled or too loud with nothing in between. Thankfully, that’s where the VocaLive comes into play.
This handy little app lets you tweak your audio, change pitch, add effects, and mix multiple tracks easily. You may not be able to become the next slim shady but it the result will be good enough to pawn off on MySpace.
And if you’re not a wannabe rap star, the iRig will work for “professional” audio recordings as well. Narrate your slideshow, ad audio to your website, or even send memos to yourself in style.
One of the best things about this hardware/software combo is the price. You’d expect to pay $50 for just about any piece of garbage peripheral but the iRig is a couple steps ahead of that for just ten bucks more.
It’s far from perfect but sometimes good enough really is good enough.

The iRig Mic sounds great. Best of all, I’m taking mine to record in all kinds of places I never could have gone with a condenser mic before. http://www.ikmultimedia.com/irigmic offers 3 different apps to use with their mic that are worth checking out.
