When Microsoft announced that a new version of its famous console was hitting the shelves soon, people went absolutely crazy. When the machine was debuted at E3 however, the reveal was less than spectacular.
The new Xbox 360 is 2 inches shorter than its older brother and about a half-inch thinner but that’s the only noticeable measurement difference. Design-wise, the machine now has 5 USB ports, built-in WiFi, and much bigger vents to help prevent overheating (the new 360 will also shut itself down to avoid melting, which is a good thing) and a much bigger hard drive.
However, that hard drive is configured differently than the one strapped to your current machine meaning that they aren’t cross-compatible. You still can transfer your data from your old machine to the new one with the help of a $20 cable but why would you?
Really, why would you by this new Xbox if you’ve already got once at home? There’s nothing so over-the-top that this new console has become a must-buy. In fact, unless you don’t already have a 360, there’s really no need to drop $300 on this. Perhaps in the near future when the machines starts shipping bundled with Natal (now called Kinect) there might be a reason to shell out some cash but by then there should be a cheaper version available (that’s the rumor floating around anyway.)
So final verdict is if you don’t have n Xbox 360 (shame on you) get this new version. It’s the best deal for your money. If you do have one, wait.
