This is one of the most impressive waterproof camcorders I’ve yet to see. It boasts 1920 X 1080 / 60i video capture capabilities and will even take 14 megapixel still shots—failure mind-blowing in itself for a pistol cam! While the zoom length isn’t that great comparatively (12X for video and only 5X for stills) it’s decent for a waterproof camcorder.
For playback, Sony has strapped on a 2.7 inch LCD that does its job but not much else. It’s great for checking to see if you really got what you think you did in that last shot but you’re not going to want to stare at it for long.
Thankfully, that’s why this little beauty with the long name comes with USB and Mini-HDMI out so you can plug it right into your digital TV. It also sports a SDXC card slot for removable storage.
A word of warning though, I wouldn’t be taking this camcorder on any deep sea dives. It is waterproof (well “resistant” due to the legalese in the warranty) but only to 10 feet. No diving down to see how the Static Kill is going on the BP well in the gulf for you, my friend.
Still, if you want a camcorder that you don’t have to worry about dropping in the ocean while you’re filming your beach escapades, this one could be yours for just under #350—not too shabby!
