The ViewSonic ViewPad is Gunning for Apple and Betting on Android

The ViewSonic ViewPad is just a rebranding of the OlivePad but that doesn’t mean you should dismiss this powerful little portable device. It’s not only rocking the Froyo but comes with front and back facing cameras (allowing real-time video conferencing over 3G and WiFi) and sports a full-sized SIM slot—giving you Apple iPhone/iPad owners SIM envy.
While ViewSonic is making a big deal about the “Full Phone Functionality” of the pad, it doesn’t have an earpiece, so you’re going to have to resort to an ear bud, Bluetooth device or some other contraption. That’s a downer but not a total buzz-kill.
What could possible destroy this device’s chances at world domination are its own dimensions. At 7 inches diagonally, it’s almost half again as large as a 1st generation iPhone yet it’s nowhere near the epic dimensions of the iPad. It’s a sort of in-betweener that’s going to have some trouble distinguishing itself. It is a little huge when you hold it up to your head but if its still-to-be-announced internal specs are anything more than average, this device may pan out to be one of the better Apple alternatives out there.
