You remember Mario Paint, don’t you? That annoying little set of digital “art” tools that masqueraded as a video game back on the Super Nintendo console? Well, THQ is hoping you do because they’re bring art back to the Wii with their new uDraw controller peripheral.
The device itself is set up like an art pad into which the Wii mote docks. There’s a stylus on a cable and a track-pad-like area to the right which functions as a writing surface. But THQ didn’t just make this for doodling. It will launch with a Mario Paint-esque game called uDraw Studio but there are plans in the works to make innovative platformers and puzzle games.
In fact, the first two in the pipe are produced by THQ as well—that’s why they’re really hoping you remember Mario Paint. The first is called Dood’s Big Adventure and something akin to Pictionary.
That’s all well and good but when you have to pay almost $70 for the peripheral in order to play the game, it’s got to be something spectacular. Very few folks have actually seen the uDraw tablet in action so that determination has to wait. Until then though, you can dust off your old SNES and boot-up Mario Paint to bring back that nostalgic frustration.
